Post: NGO Launches Initiative to Enhance Farming Techniques in Kisumu West

Kisumu: A non-governmental organisation, World Neighbours, has rolled out a grassroots initiative aimed at enlightening residents of Kisumu West sub-county on modern farming techniques. This move is geared towards promoting food security and at the same time ensuring environmental conservation in line with climate change mitigation measures that were observed to maintain the general ecosystem in the area.

According to Kenya News Agency, the director of World Neighbours, Chris Macoloo, while rolling out the organisation's initiatives, pointed out that the measures are a response to the need to prop better living standards among the residents and improve their livelihoods by empowering them with livestock, extending agricultural loans, and also sensitising the people to pertinent business skills.

'We have identified food security and sprucing better living standards in terms of healthy living, including conserving the environment and the natural resources including trees and water resources and how to conserve our soils to give maximum yields,' said Macoloo.

The Director disclosed that they had also instituted interventions on sprucing up health and living standards of the people through the rolling out of mobile clinics and equally supporting agricultural endeavours within the local villages. At the same time, they were sensitising residents on modern agricultural techniques such as the use of the right seed that would give better yields, adequate for both food consumption and surplus yields for sale.
