Post: Nyamira South Launches Jukwaa La Usalama to Enhance Security

Nyamira south: Nyamira South Sub-County Deputy County Commissioner (DCC) Florence Obunga has officially launched the Sub-County Jukwaa la Usalama, an initiative aimed at revitalizing and strengthening peace and security forums in the region. Speaking during the launch, Ms. Obunga emphasized that the forum will work closely with multi-sectoral agencies drawn from both government and non-government organizations, as well as community opinion leaders, to ensure sustained peace and security in the area.

According to Kenya News Agency, the Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Administration, Kipchumba Murkomen, initiated the Jukwaa la Usalama forums across the country to give citizens a platform to share ideas and collaborate with government security agencies. He directed that similar forums be established at the Sub-County level to enhance cooperation and improve local security. The DCC noted that the Sub-County Jukwaa la Usalama will serve as a platform for members to discuss insecurity concerns, develop effective strategies to address emerging threats, and sensitize the public on security matters.

The National Jukwaa la Usalama forums have already borne fruit since the National Government Administration Officers (NGAOs) have undergone retooling courses that have enhanced their performance, especially in conflict resolution. Ms. Obunga highlighted that the forums will provide an avenue for information sharing and discussion of key factors contributing to insecurity in the area, including land disputes, Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV), illicit brew trade, and youth unemployment.

She expressed appreciation to all stakeholders who attended the forum and pledged that the Sub-County administration will employ a whole-of-government and multi-sectoral approach to tackle insecurity issues effectively. Members of the Sub-County Jukwaa la Usalama forum include security officials, opinion leaders, representatives from the public transport and bodaboda sectors, the business community, and youth representatives.

The forum will hold monthly meetings to review the security situation in Nyamira South Sub-County and devise strategies to maintain peace and stability for the benefit of all residents.
