Nyeri: Nyeri County firemen have today commenced a one-month fire service course facilitated by the International Centre of Technology-ICT Fire and Rescue-Thika, Kiambu County. The course includes essential modules such as fire attack and foam, firefighter survival, fire suppression, vehicle extrication, search and rescue, and Emergency Vehicle Operation (EVOC). The training sessions will be conducted at ICT Fire and Rescue Kiambu and Nyeri Fire Station.
According to Kenya News Agency, the acting County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Gender, Youth, Sports, and Social Services, Dr. Joseph Maina Kiragu, lauded the firefighters’ dedication to public safety and community service. Dr. Kiragu emphasized that the training aims to equip the firefighters with vital skills and knowledge while fostering teamwork, leadership, and community service. He remarked, “In every drill, every simulation, and every lesson learnt, our trainees will come to understand that they are part of a noble tradition that values courage and altruism.”
Dr. Kiragu further highlighted that the skills acquired during the training would empower the firefighters individually and collectively enhance the fire service, ultimately leading to safer communities. Nyeri County Public Service Board Secretary, David Ruga, also acknowledged the importance of capacity building in improving service delivery. He noted that skills enhancement, knowledge updates, and scenario-based training are crucial for career advancement and progression.
Additionally, Joe Gethi, Chief Officer of Gender, Youth, Sport, and Social Services, expressed gratitude to ICT Fire and Rescue Services and St John’s Ambulance for their role in the training. He encouraged participants to remain focused and dedicated to the program. Director of Disaster Risk Management, Col Teimuge, underscored the collective effort required to create secure communities, where professional and brave responses to emergencies are standard, thereby reinforcing the mission to protect lives and property.
