Homa Bay: Ogande Girls School in Homa Bay County has emerged victorious in this year's Nyanza region drama festivals. The school's drama club is now set to represent the region at the national festivals scheduled to take place in Nakuru from April 6th to 13th.
According to Kenya News Agency, the girls clinched the trophy during the drama festivals held over the weekend at Orero Boys High School in Homa Bay County. School Principal Jane Odhiambo expressed confidence in winning the upcoming national festivals, stating that their recent triumph has provided the necessary impetus to train hard for the competition.
Odhiambo emphasized that the team is focused on becoming the national champion in cultural dance this year, and they are working diligently toward achieving this goal. Speaking at the school compound while receiving the trophy, Odhiambo noted that the win has boosted the morale of many teachers as they prepare to implement the new Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) in Kenya.
The principal attributed their success to support from teachers, parents, and non-teaching staff. In addition to their drama achievements, Ogande Girls also represented the county in hockey during the regional secondary school's sports games held at St Joseph's Rapogi in Migori County.
Odhiambo highlighted the importance of encouraging learners to discover their talents early, noting that festivals such as these provide platforms to showcase their abilities. She also mentioned that academically, over 700 candidates from the school achieved a mean grade of C+ (plus) and above in last year's Kenya Certificate of Secondary Exams (KCSE), qualifying them for direct university entry.
Dickens Bula, the Kenya Secondary School Heads Association (KESSHA) Chairman in Homa Bay and Orero Boys High School Chief Principal, congratulated Ogande Girls for their performance. He appealed to well-wishers to support the winning teams from the region to help them perform effectively in the national festivals.
