Cotonou: The General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) participated as observers in the legislative and municipal elections in the Republic of Benin, responding to an official invitation. This electoral event took place on 11 January 2026, marking a significant moment in Benin's political process.

According to Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, this participation is part of the OIC's ongoing efforts to support member states in enhancing democratic practices. The OIC aims to promote transparency, integrity, and credibility in electoral processes, contributing to political stability and sustainable development within its member nations.

During their mission in Benin, the OIC delegation joined a session organized by the National Electoral Commission. Here, they were thoroughly briefed on the different phases of the electoral process and the procedural steps implemented to ensure a smooth election.
