Post: Outcry over insecurity in Narok town

Narok leaders have decried rising incidents of insecurity in Narok town and its environs following the latest wave of murder cases.Narok Governor Patrick Ntutu, while speaking in Trans Mara South Sub County, condemned the killings and called on the security team to arrest the criminals involved immediately. The governor also called on residents to report suspicious people in their midst, saying that as the town grows, many criminals could take advantage to hide in the midst of the innocent people.Narok East Member of Parliament Ken Aramat asked the security team to bring to book all those involved in criminal activities, saying six people were reported murdered in the town in the last one week.Aramat condemned the incidents and wondered why the security team was taking a long time to contain the situation.Following the insecurity incidents, the area residents held a meeting at Kandas Ground on Monday to chat a way forward on how to tackle the situation. The residents, led by Narok Youth Leader Boos ter Kisio and Narok Peace Ambassador Joshua Kaputa, raised concern over a slogan 'FLOSSIN MAUANO' that is written on different points of the town, that they believe is a cultic movement. The meeting that was also attended by Narok township Chief Daniel Sankale resolved to reshuffle the Nyumba kumi representatives who were reluctant to report criminals in their localities.Barely a day ends without a person being reported killed in parts of the town, despite the police having arrested over 60 people suspected to be engaging in the killings.Narok County Police Commander Riko Ngare said police patrols have been heightened in all parts of the town and asked residents to return to their homes by 8:00 pm, as those who will be found loitering in town during night hours will be regarded as criminals. He also called on residents to give information about any person they suspect to be involved in the killings so that they can make an arrest.Source: Kenya News Agency
