Mombasa: Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba has encouraged parents to enroll their children in the established Technical, Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions to enhance their skill development. The initiative aims to equip young people with the necessary skills to address unemployment challenges among the youth.
According to Kenya News Agency, CS Ogamba highlighted that approximately 3.8 million youths aged 15-35 years are currently not in school and are unemployed. The government is focused on enrolling these young individuals in TVETs to provide them with the skills necessary to support themselves. The Cabinet Secretary expressed concern over the low enrollment numbers at the nearby TVET in Kilgoris Constituency, where only 250 students are currently admitted.
Ogamba further mentioned that Bomachoge Borabu is among the 36 constituencies slated to establish a TVET institution after the approval of the 2025/2026 Financial Budget. The announcement was made during an inter-border meeting organized in response to recent inter-community clashes at the border of Kisii and Narok counties.
The Cabinet Secretary emphasized the importance of unity and cooperation between the two communities, noting that women and school-going children often suffer the most during such conflicts. He stressed the responsibility of citizens and leaders to maintain peace to protect vulnerable populations.
Additionally, Ogamba reiterated the government's dedication to employing a whole-of-government approach to ensure effective and efficient public service delivery, which is vital for economic improvement.
