The Assembly of People’s Representatives (ARP) on Wednesday evening ratified the law amending Decree No. 13 of

March 20, 2022 on penal reconciliation and the use of its proceeds, in its amended version.

Some 126 deputies voted in favour, while 3 abstained and no objections were recorded, according to a parliamentary statement.

The proposed amendments to articles 26 (new) and 27 (new) of the first article were rejected. The amendments to Article 30 caused considerable debate and were rejected by Minister of Justice, Leila Jaffel, who believed that they would “render the draft meaningless and hinder the process of criminal reconciliation”.

MPs tabled 3 amendments to Article 30 (new), 2 of which were rejected, the first by 84 MPs and the second by 102 MPs. The third amendment was withdrawn by the MP who tabled it.

The first article of the draft was adopted as amended by 121 votes in favour and 4 abstentions. The second article was adopted in its original version with 123 votes in favour and 4 abstentions.
