Mumias east: Evangelical pastors in Mumias East, Kakamega, have announced their decision to boycott funerals that permit the practice of disco matanga. This decision was made clear during a funeral service on Saturday, where Livingstone Washali, chairperson of the Council of Churches for Mumias East, articulated the group's stance.
According to Kenya News Agency, Washali, who serves as pastor at New Faith Evangelical Church Shianda, emphasized that disco matanga has contributed to lawlessness and an increase in teenage pregnancies. This troubling trend has prompted the church to take action, aiming to safeguard the youth and society from moral decline. Washali stated that there is a consensus among local pastors, in collaboration with the area's Deputy County Commissioner, to refrain from participating in burials where disco matanga is practiced.
Pastor Washali has also called upon National Government Administration Officers to issue burial permits exclusively when a body is being released from the mortuary for interment. He further urged pastors from Mumias East to organize forums designed to encourage the youth to adhere to the law and focus on self-improvement. 'We will not allow our youth to be careless or engage in harmful behaviours that could destroy their lives,' he affirmed.
