Post: Plans Unveiled for New Medical College in Nanyuki

Nanyuki: Plans are underway to construct a medical training college in Nanyuki, Laikipia County, Governor Joshua Irungu has revealed. Speaking to KNA at the Nanyuki Teaching and Referral Hospital, the governor said that his administration has allocated Sh200 million for construction of the state-of-the-art Laikipia Medical Training College (LMTC).

According to Kenya News Agency, the medical training college is one of the flagship projects of the county, with Sh200 million set aside for relocating the Nanyuki morgue, erecting a perimeter fence, and constructing the tuition blocks. The facility is expected to cover nearly forty acres and will be located at the Nanyuki Hospital, providing medical students with hands-on experience.

Governor Irungu announced that the college is scheduled to open on March 1, 2026, for its first cohort of learners. He also encouraged investors to commence the construction of hostels to accommodate the students.

Nanyuki Teaching and Referral Hospital Chief Executive Officer Dr. Sammy Kilonzo commended the medical college project, noting its potential to complement the hospital with essential manpower for efficient medical service delivery to residents. Dr. Kilonzo emphasized the college's role in enhancing training and providing advanced-level manpower within the hospital.

Additionally, Dr. Kilonzo disclosed that the hospital benefited from a 60-bed newborn unit currently under construction, funded by the Safaricom M-Pesa foundation.
