‘Please Forgive Me’ – Fonki Pleads in Final Message to PCC Christians.

Buea: The out-going Moderator of the Presbyterian Church in Cameroon (PCC), the Rt. Rev. Dr. Fonki Samuel Forba has called on PCC Christians to forgive him for what he termed some of his ‘administrative errors’. In a letter addressed to PCC Christians on November 10, which marked the 67th Presbyterian Church Day, the Rev. Dr. Fonki acknowledged that ‘Some of my administrative errors, my personal weaknesses might have caused some of you pain. I honestly owe you an unreserved apology in the spirit of Jesus Christ… I am honestly sorry! Please forgive me!’

According to Cameroon News Agency, the traditional address is Fonki’s tenth and last, marking the end of his 10 years at the helm of one of the largest Protestant denominations in the country. In the 24-page letter which this CNA reporter has seen, the PCC’s lead pastor among other things admitted the need for reconciliation within the denomination and said while he was leaving the Synod Office in Buea, he would return to the role of an ordinary pastor and foc
us on pastoral ministry in that capacity.

Fonki’s term of office has not been without its controversies. Some have accused him of mishandling the crisis in the Northwest and Southwest Regions where the PCC has majority of its churches. ‘I honestly go with no grudges, resentment or vengeance. Those who hurt me, those who swore by fasting to bring down my leadership are still my friends in Christ Jesus’ the Reverend Fonki added.

While urging believers to keep their faith grounded on the promises of God, Fonki prayed that the incoming leadership will receive full support and that the work of God will flourish. Rt. Rev. Dr. Fonki Samuel Forba is expected to hand over as PCC Moderator on December 20, 2024 to newly elected church officials in the Synod of Assurance from November 16-18.
