Ouagadougou: The Director General of the National Police, Thierry Tuina, officially launched the Motorized Security and Intervention Brigade (BMSI) in the 4th district of Ouagadougou, marking a strategic effort to combat the rise in urban crime.
According to Burkina Information Agency, Thierry Tuina emphasized the need for the Motorized Security and Intervention Brigade as a response to increasing urban crime. He highlighted that road incivility poses a threat to state authority and results in societal tragedies, necessitating proactive police measures.
The Director General stated that there is a need for tactical measures involving high mobility of police forces to effectively counter various forms of crime. The new unit aims to reduce response times and address crimes committed on motorcycles, as well as road incivility.
The BMSI will focus on apprehending offenders, conducting patrols, and executing targeted checks at major intersections and roads. Tuina urged the public to assist the police by providing information through designated toll-free numbers, emphasizing that the brigade's strength lies in its mobility.
Salomon Kambou, president of the special delegation of district 4, praised the security reforms and urged residents to collaborate with the brigade for collective safety. The initiative, starting in Ouagadougou, will eventually expand to other cities in Burkina Faso.
