The Minister of Water Resources and Energy, Gaston Eloundou Essomba, announced that the Center Region of Cameroon will have a disruption in its supply of electricity on Sunday January 7, 2024.
He made the announcement through a release signed on Friday January 5, 2024.
According to the release, power will be disrupted on Sunday from 6 am to 6 pm. He says this is part of the imminent commissioning of the Nachtigal hydroelectric dam, as announced by the Head of State in his address to the nation on 31 December 2023, major work will be carried out at the 225/90/15 kV Oyomabang substation.
‘The government’s objective in carrying out this work is to ensure the safe evacuation of power produced by the Nachtigal dam, by connecting the Nyom 2 substation, from which the power is received, to the Oyomabang substation for distribution to the grid,’ Minister Eloundou said.
He further stated that; ‘ The safe completion of this work will require the removal of certain major electricity transmission facilities, in part
icular the 225 kV Mangombé-Nkolkoumou-Oyomabang line, the 90 kV Oyomabang- Ngousso line and the 225/90/15 kV Oyomabang substation. All of which will lead to disruptions in the supply of electricity in some neighbourhoods in and around the city of Yaoundé,’.
