Post: Presidential pardon: Justice Minister issues decisions on conditional release

Tunis: Justice Minister Leila Jaffel issued, on Wednesday, decisions on conditional release.These decisions follow the decrees validated, on Tuesday, by the President of the Republic, under which 1,727 convicts will have their sentences annulled or reduced.The special pardon and conditional release will apply to 2,956 prisoners who have met the legal conditions, reads a ministry press release.According to this measure, 1,462 prisoners will be released. The remaining prisoners will have their sentences reduced, the minsitry added.President of the Republic Kais Saied signed, on Wednesday, a decree granting a special presidential pardon, in accordance with Article 99 of the Constitution, to a number of convicted persons who committed offences related to social media posts.Source: Agence Tunis Afrique Presse
