Post: Rapid Result Initiative Targets 500,000 Farmers for KIAMIS Registration

Murang'a: The Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development will, from Monday (today), initiate a two-week registration exercise aimed at onboarding an additional 500,000 farmers from across the country onto the Kenya Integrated Agriculture Management Information System (KIAMIS). The initiative seeks to enhance the digital platform that enables farmers to access government subsidies such as fertilizer.

According to Kenya News Agency, the registration process will commence in Murang'a County and will be implemented across all 47 counties, including Nairobi and Mombasa, running until the 8th of September 2025. A press statement from Principal Secretary, State Department of Agriculture, Dr. Kipronoh Ronoh, indicated that Agricultural Officers at the county level would oversee the registration process.

To streamline the registration effort, the government plans to collaborate with County governments to allocate additional personnel for the task. Dr. Ronoh also mentioned that during this period, the government will focus on registering all coffee farmers to meet the European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) requirements.

The EUDR aims to mitigate climate change by preventing deforestation and blocking the sale of coffee produced in deforested areas across EU member countries. Registration of coffee farmers will involve physical verification and geo-mapping of farm GPS coordinates to ensure traceability and assure the EU of the origin of Kenyan coffee. The government has pledged support to all coffee farmers aiming to export their coffee to the EU.

Farmers interested in registering should reach out to their nearest Agricultural Officers. They will need to provide a national ID card and phone number to complete their KIAMIS registration. During the process, essential details such as land size, crops under cultivation, livestock numbers, and fish and fish pod size will be recorded.

By July 2025, the KIAMIS system had already registered over 6.6 million farmers, with the current August 2025 drive targeting an additional 500,000. Farmers are urged to participate as the system offers access to e-vouchers for agricultural inputs and enhances government support for sustainable agriculture.
