Football clubs in Nairobi and teams affiliated to Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Nairobi branch have been encouraged to participate in the Sakaja Super Cup Second Edition 2024.Teams interested in participating in the tournament have been urged to pick registration forms at City Stadium as from today Thursday October 3, 2024, fill and submit them before the deadline on Tuesday October 8, 2024.The tournament which offers teams in the city a chance to compete for the grand prize of Sh 3 million, first kicked off in 2023.The tournament is organized under the patronage of Nairobi City County Governor, Johnson Sakaja, in collaboration with the Johnson Sakaja Foundation, FKF, and the County Government of Nairobi.This year's competition will follow a knockout format, with matches starting at the sub-county level, and the grand finale expected to take place in December 2024.In a press statement sent to newsrooms, Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja said the tournament's potential is to uplift Nairobi's young f ootballers where the top performers will have the opportunity to be recruited into National Super League side of Nairobi United, or join the Nairobi United Academy for further development.The Governor said the tournament will enable other top league teams to scout for talent during the tournament, thereby giving players a chance to advance their careers in professional football.'The Sakaja Super Cup is not just about competition, it's about creating opportunities for our young players to shine and pursue professional football careers,' he stated, adding that the tournament will also help to build a strong foundation for Nairobi's football future.He hinted at the possibility of increasing the grand prize in future editions from the current Ksh. 3 million, depending on the tournament's growth and success.The Sakaja Super Cup is a platform for young and upcoming players who have not been included in the top league divisions to have an opportunity to showcase their skills and talent in front of top-tier c oaches and scouts from prominent clubs.Governor Sakaja's broader vision in the competition is to nurture grassroots football and provide a springboard for young players to advance their careers through focusing on emerging talents.The first edition of the tournament which saw Githurai All Stars emerging as champions, successfully opened doors for several players, with many securing contracts with higher-level clubs.Source: Kenya News Agency
