Post: Residents of Samburu East Pledge Cooperation with Police to Combat Armed Criminals

Samburu East: Residents of Samburu East Sub-County have pledged to collaborate with security forces to combat the ongoing threat of armed criminals terrorizing businessmen. Speaking during a security meeting with Nyumba Kumi elders, chiefs, residents, and the business community in Wamba town, Samburu County Commissioner (CC) John Cheruiyot assured residents that the government is committed to maintaining peace in the sub-county by apprehending the few criminals that have been carrying out armed robberies in Wamba and Archers Post trading centers.

According to Kenya News Agency, during the gathering, Cheruiyot highlighted that a handful of criminals have been targeting businesses in Wamba town, which has resulted in the death of a Meru businessman. He urged the business community in Wamba East to install CCTV cameras to assist security forces in apprehending the criminals. 'We have agreed that every resident should be involved in maintaining security, and business people have agreed to put up security cameras to aid us in apprehending the culprits,' he stated.

The County Commissioner also made a call to residents to volunteer information that could lead to the arrest of these armed criminals. 'These armed criminals are not from Samburu East, and we know that you know them because they live amongst you. I assure you that if you give us information, you will remain anonymous, so do not fear,' he reassured the community.

Cheruiyot also pointed out that poor roads and lack of mobile network are some of the challenges faced by security officers in the region. Furthermore, he directed chiefs and their assistants to continuously engage in peace talks with Morans to change their mindset on negative cultural practices such as cattle rustling.

Nathan Lekudere, a village elder from Wamba, expressed that the community is prepared to collaborate with the police to restore peace, emphasizing that it would benefit the locals. 'I encourage residents to volunteer information to the police because if our town is safe, it will attract more investors, and there will be jobs for our children,' he said.

The Commissioner conducted similar security meetings in Loosuk village in Samburu West Constituency.
