Road fatalities rose to 301 from early January to April 13 up from 233 during the same period last year (+29%), the National Observatory of Road Safety said.
Figures show 1,302 road accidents occurred in the period from early January to April 13 against 1,556 during this same period last year, posting a 16% drop. The number of people who sustained injuries fell 14% to 1,861.
Recklessness and inattention were the major causes of accidents (41.7%) followed by speeding (15% and failure to give way (8%).
