Post: Sh3.5 Million Water Project to Benefit Kishermoruak Residents

Kishermoruak: Residents of Kishermoruak area in Narok West Constituency are set to benefit from a Sh3.5 million water project that will ease the burden of sourcing for the precious commodity. Area Member of Parliament Gabriel Tong'oyo announced the allocation of funds from the National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) to enhance the livelihood of the people living next to the Maasai Mara Game Reserve.

According to Kenya News Agency, the borehole will be drilled at Kishermoruak Boys Secondary School and is anticipated to serve the surrounding community, who currently trek long distances in search of clean water. The project aims to address the longstanding hardships faced by Kishermoruak residents due to the lack of a reliable water source, especially during extended dry spells.

The water shortage has significantly impacted the students of Kishermoruak Boys Secondary School and Kishermoruak Primary School, forcing them to sacrifice class time to fetch water from the distant River Talek. The broader community, coexisting with wildlife, faces additional challenges, as women and children must traverse several kilometers daily through wildlife corridors, risking encounters with dangerous animals.

Ms. Mary Siloma, a resident of Kishermoruak location, expressed relief at the new project, highlighting the struggle to access clean water. She noted that during dry spells, the community is particularly vulnerable to encounters with wildlife, such as elephants, while searching for water. The project is expected to significantly improve access to clean water and boost the livelihoods of Kishermoruak residents.
