Murang'a: Kiharu NG-CDF has allocated Sh5.5 million in the current fiscal year to upgrade the Kandundu Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) centre into a fully operational primary school. The funds are designated for constructing classrooms to accommodate learners from grade one to grade nine.
According to Kenya News Agency, Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro announced that the school, located on the outskirts of Murang'a town, will receive an additional Sh4.5 million in the next financial year to complete the project. Ndindi stated that the expanded school would help reduce congestion in neighboring primary schools by absorbing local learners.
'Kandundu is a growing area in terms of settlements and population. The need to expand this ECDE centre into a primary school was informed by the fact students have been trekking for long distances to access education in schools within Murang'a town,' said the MP during the project's commissioning.
Ndindi emphasized his commitment to enhancing education standards and infrastructure in the constituency. He also proposed naming the school after former President Mwai Kibaki or veteran politician Kenneth Matiba in recognition of their contributions to Kenya's development.
The MP commended the Masomo Bora program, which is being implemented in day secondary schools within Kiharu. This initiative allows parents to pay Sh1,000 per term while students receive meals, revision books, and improved facilities, including laboratories. The program's success has attracted over 2,000 students from neighboring constituencies.
Ndindi also inaugurated the newly constructed Kandundu Estate Road, highlighting the shift to concrete roads in steep areas to replace murram roads that are prone to erosion. He assured residents that pending road construction projects would begin within the next two months.
Township Ward MCA Charles Machigo praised the MP's development agenda, recalling their initial discussions about constructing the school. Margret Kamau, a retired teacher from Kandundu Nursery School, expressed gratitude for the consistent support and renovations, ensuring that local children would soon have access to primary education.
Local resident Daniel Ndung'u noted the positive impact of infrastructure improvements on economic growth, while area Assistant Chief Swaleh Hassan urged parents to monitor their children's safety, especially near quarries during school holidays.
