Machongo: Speaker of the National Assembly Moses Wetangula has led a major interdenominational fundraiser team in support of 40 churches in the Bomachoge Chache constituency, held at the Machongo P.A.G. Primary School grounds. The event drew large crowds and was graced by numerous religious and political leaders from across the region.
According to Kenya News Agency, in his keynote address, Speaker Wetangula called for sustained peace and unity in the country, warning against the dangers of tribal politics. "The country belongs to all of us, regardless of our tribe or background. Kenya is not for one community. Any politician trying to advance tribal politics should be ignored," Wetangula said, urging leaders to focus on issue-based leadership.
He emphasised that the current administration's decision to adopt a broad-based government was a deliberate strategy to include all Kenyans, regardless of their political affiliations, under one unified vision for development and inclusion. "The government has deliberately embraced inclusivity, even bringing on board those who were initially in opposition. We are building a country where every Kenyan feels seen and valued," he said.
Wetangula contributed Sh3.5 million to the church fundraiser, Sh500,000 from himself and Sh3 million from President William Ruto. Calling upon the church to continue praying for the nation and its leadership, the speaker noted, "We rely on the spiritual community to guide our moral compass and help us nurture leadership that serves with integrity and humility."
In the same breath, Wetangula appealed for mutual respect between Kenyans and citizens of neighbouring countries, following recent online tensions between Kenyan Gen Zs and Tanzanian authorities that escalated across social media, particularly on X (formerly Twitter). "We must respect other nations if we expect to be respected. Our unity as Kenyans must also be matched by respect for our neighbours," he said, cautioning against divisive rhetoric and digital hostility that could jeopardise diplomatic relations.
The event concluded with prayers and pledges of continued collaboration between the church, citizens, and government to foster peace, development, and unity at all levels of society.
