Skyward Express Launches First Direct Flight from Mombasa to Dar-es-Salaam

MOMBASA: In a significant move to bolster regional connectivity, Skyward Express has launched its inaugural direct flight from Mombasa to Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania, marking a milestone in enhancing trade, tourism, and cultural exchanges between Kenya and Tanzania.

According to Kenya News Agency, the introduction of this direct flight is expected to reduce travel time and costs, offering a more accessible route for businesses, tourists, and local travelers. Previously, passengers had to transit through Nairobi, which added hours to their journey. Mombasa Governor Abdulswammad Nassir, speaking at Moi International Airport during the launch, emphasized the broader benefits, noting that improved air connectivity can significantly contribute to Kenya’s GDP by attracting international passengers. He also called for tax incentives and other support mechanisms for local aviation companies to enhance their competitiveness globally.

Chairman of the Kenya Airports Authority, Caleb Kositany, commended Skyward Express for
their commitment to bridging regional gaps and highlighted the launch as a step towards advancing Kenya’s Vision 2030 goals. He announced plans to expand airport facilities to meet growing industry demands and improve passenger experience.

Skyward Express Chairman, Captain Mohammed Abdi, reflected on the airline’s growth, noting that their first flight to Mombasa from Wilson Airport occurred eight years ago. Since then, the airline has expanded its services, including launching its first regional flight from Nairobi to Dar-es-Salaam last month. Abdi emphasized the strategic positioning of the airline to offer a superior experience with reduced flight times and urged other airlines to build capacity to compete effectively.
