Migori: The National Assembly Committee on Administration and National Security, chaired by Lari MP Mburu Kahangara, has assured Migori residents that the stalled Migori headquarters building will be completed to serve the public.
According to Kenya News Agency, Mburu expressed concern that government officials have been forced to hire offices despite significant financial resources already invested in the construction of the substantial three-story office block, which has faced delays exceeding 15 years. He revealed that over Sh500 million has already been allocated to the project, yet it remains unfinished and unoccupied.
The committee recently visited the building to evaluate its structural integrity, emphasizing the injustice in abandoning a project that has utilized substantial taxpayer funds. Mburu stated, "As a committee, we will be writing a report and recommendations for money to be allocated in the 2025/2026 budget to complete the project to serve the county residents."
Public works have been tasked with preparing quotations to determine the required funds for the project's completion. Mburu noted that once funding is secured, priority will be given to roofing to preserve the structural integrity of the building situated on the outskirts of Migori town.
The project, currently 50 percent complete, is estimated to require an additional Sh300-400 million for its completion. Mburu indicated that, should funds be available, the project could be completed by the end of the year. He also mentioned the possibility of completing the project in phases, dependent on the allocated funds, to ensure it fulfills its intended purpose.
