Homa bay: The national government has allocated Sh 424 million for the construction of a five-kilometre dual carriage highway in Homa Bay town. The project aims to decongest traffic and ensure the smooth movement of people and goods within the area.
According to Kenya News Agency, Homa Bay County Commissioner Moses Lilan explained that the construction, undertaken by the Kenya National Highways Authority (KenHA), is expected to last for 18 months. The dual carriageway will stretch from Junction Kodoyo to the Homa Bay town central business district (CBD) and extend to Got-Rabuor trading centre.
The development is anticipated to eliminate traffic jams commonly experienced during rush hours in the morning and evenings. Commissioner Lilan emphasized that the contractor has been given strict instructions to deliver quality work and complete the project by the end of September next year.
Speaking to the press in his office in Homa Bay town, Lilan, who chairs the National Government Development Committee in the county, highlighted the transformative potential of the project for the local economy. He mentioned that road accidents involving motorists and pedestrians are expected to decrease due to the inclusion of special pedestrian walkways.
Mr. Lilan also urged the business community, whose activities might be impacted by the ongoing construction, to cooperate with the contractor and implement temporary measures to minimize disruptions to their businesses.
