Post: Subsidised Fertiliser Distribution Resumes in Kericho

Kericho: Farmers in Kericho County have expressed relief following the resumption of fertiliser distribution by the National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB) after a brief delay last week, occasioned by logistical challenges.

According to Kenya News Agency, a spot check at the NCPB Kericho depot found numerous farmers eagerly collecting their fertilisers in preparation for the upcoming planting season. Many farmers were unable to access the commodity last week, despite having received electronic vouchers, causing concern among local farmers who rely on timely fertiliser distribution to ensure a successful planting season.

Officers from the NCPB Kericho branch reported that the distribution process had begun and urged farmers to visit the depot for the government-subsidised fertilisers at Sh 2500 per 50-kilogramme bag. A farmer from Ainamoi constituency, Benson Biwott, expressed his gratitude, saying, "We have been waiting for the fertiliser since last week, and we are relieved that it's finally here. The long rains are about to begin, and we are now ready to plant, and we appreciate the government's quick response to resolve this issue."

Another farmer from Kipchimchim ward, Amos Bill, also reported that the distribution process was proceeding smoothly, with no further delays. "The process is running without any hitches, and we are all satisfied with the arrangements," he said.

The national government has been making concerted efforts to improve the distribution of farm inputs, establish additional fertiliser depots, and expand extension services. This is all geared towards providing farmers with technical support and strengthening agricultural value chains to enhance both production and market access.
