Nairobi: The government has commenced the tarmacking of Masaku Junction along the Kiambu-Ruiru Road, extending to Small Lagos in Fort Jesus/Gitambaya, Biashara Ward, Ruiru Municipality. The project is expected to significantly improve transportation, boost business opportunities, and enhance security in the area.
According to Kenya News Agency, the initiative, launched this week, is part of ongoing efforts to modernise road networks and public amenities in Kiambu County. Beyond paving the road, the project will incorporate a modern drainage system to curb flooding during rainy seasons.
Pedestrian walkways will also be constructed to improve safety, while solar-powered streetlights will be installed to enhance security and extend business hours by providing reliable evening lighting. Local residents have welcomed the development, noting its potential to improve livelihoods.
'This new road will make it easier for us to get to work and for our children to get to school safely. The streetlights will also make the neighbourhood safer at night,' said Jane Mwangi, a resident of Small Lagos. The project is designed to benefit commuters, businesses, and households across Ruiru Municipality.
By improving road conditions and integrating flood-control measures, the government aims to reduce travel time, prevent property damage, and spur economic growth in the region. County officials expressed confidence that the project aligns with Kiambu's broader goal of revitalising infrastructure and supporting sustainable development.
It also reflects the county's commitment to addressing long-standing challenges such as poor drainage and inadequate street lighting. As work progresses, the community anticipates a notable boost in commerce and neighbourhood safety.
The tarmacking of Masaku Junction is one of several infrastructure projects underway, all aimed at making Kiambu County a more attractive place to live, work, and invest.
