The Tunisian Ons Jabeur ( world number 4) will be exempted from the first round of the Stuttgart tennis tournament (WTA 500) which will be held indoors on clay.
According to the draw of the tournament scheduled for April 17-23, Jabeur will be seeded No. 3 and will be exempt from the first round. She will open on Wednesday or Thursday against the winner of the match between Britain’s Emma Raducanu (68th) and Latvia’s Jelena Ostapenko (10th).
The tournament will see the participation of the best players in the world such as the world No.1 Iga Swiatek from Poland, US Coco Gauff (6th), Russian Daria Kasatskina (8th), and Greek Maria Sakkari (9th).
The former world number two, 28, will try to confirm her return to the forefront after winning her first tournament of the season last Sunday in Charleston, on a grey clay court in South Carolina, at the expense of Belinda Bencic of Switzerland 7-6, 6-4.
It was the fourth title of her career for the Wimbledon and US Open finalist last year, who had a tricky start to 2023 marked by an absence of several weeks in February for “minor surgery”.
Since her return, Tunisian Ons Jabeur has been eliminated in the second round at the WTA 1000 tournaments in Indian Wells and Miami.
