Tunisian medical team in Guinea to perform 150 operations (ATCT)

A volunteer medical team comprising two ophthalmologists and a technician are in Guinea-Conakry for a campaign to combat avoidable blindness, which will run from November 21- December 02, 2023.

During the mission, which is part of the Alliance to Fight Avoidable Blindness, Tunisian experts will perform some 150 surgical operations, according to a press release by the Tunisian Agency for Technical Cooperation.

The aim is also to build the technical capacity of Guinean ophthalmologists in the field of cataract surgery and its various techniques.

The mission follows a series of campaigns conducted since the programme was launched in 2003, according to the same source.

Some 30,000 surgical operations, 58,000 consultations and 218 training sessions were carried out under this programme for the benefit of several Sub-Saharan African countries.
