Ouagadougou: The Nando Regional Directorate of Labor and Social Protection, in collaboration with the National Agency for Universal Health Insurance (AMU), organized an important presentation at the REo High Commission. This event, held on the sidelines of the Provincial Consultation Framework (CCP) session, focused on the introduction and registration process for universal health insurance in the region.
According to Burkina Information Agency, AMU representative Lazare KaborE, alongside DieudonnE Sawadogo, a registration agent from Koudougou, elucidated the conditions and procedures for enrolling in the universal health insurance program. KaborE highlighted that this initiative is rooted in Law 060-2015/CNT, with its implementation commencing in November 2024. The scheme is designed to encompass the entire population residing in Burkina Faso, without any distinctions.
The program stipulates that both private and public sector employees contribute 5% of their gross salary towards the insurance, with the cost equally shared between the employer and the worker at 2.5% each. Individuals who are self-employed or part of the informal sector are required to contribute 4,000 CFA francs monthly. The insurance covers registered workers and their dependents, which include legally married spouses and dependent children. However, the coverage excludes eyewear and medical evacuations abroad.
Registration for the insurance is straightforward, requiring a photocopy of the CNIB and the birth certificate for the primary insured individual, a marriage certificate for the spouse, and birth certificates or legal documents for dependent children. Interested individuals can register at REo town hall or at the designated site at the Koudougou Labor Inspectorate.
