Vihiga: Vihiga County has bolstered its fight against Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) by acquiring advanced diagnostic equipment to enhance diabetes screening and management in local health facilities. The consignment, received by the County Executive Committee Member for Health Services, Nicholas Kitungulu, includes various tools, such as weighing scales, tape measures, stadiometers, IC materials, glucometers, and glucostrips.
According to Kenya News Agency, Kitungulu emphasized the importance of the equipment in early diabetes detection and monitoring. The initiative aims to alleviate financial and emotional burdens on families and enhance the county's healthcare system. "This intervention will improve access to timely diagnosis and proper management of NCDs, which remain a growing public health concern in our county," he noted.
Moreover, the initiative is supported by the Ministry of Health in partnership with the Kenya Diabetes Management and Information Centre and the World Diabetes Foundation. The County government has pledged to enhance healthcare accessibility, affordability, and availability for all residents, with a particular focus on preventive and community health services.
