Post: Wajir Community Unites in Monthly Clean-Up Drive

Wajir: Hundreds of Wajir residents participated in a community-driven clean-up exercise aimed at creating a cleaner and healthier environment. The initiative brought together stakeholders, including local community members, the Wajir Boda Boda Association, Kenya Red Cross, Siyat Foundation, Equity Bank, and Kenya Commercial Bank.

According to Kenya News Agency, the clean-up was spearheaded by Wajir Municipality officials and included garbage collection, drainage unblocking, and trench clearing along the municipality’s main streets. Wajir Municipality Manager Omar Shano, who presided over the clean-up, emphasized the importance of fostering a culture of shared responsibility for cleanliness. Shano announced that the last Saturday of every month will now be officially designated as Wajir town’s clean-up day.

Shano extended his gratitude to the transport sector for providing 20 trucks to support the initiative, highlighting the importance of partnerships in maintaining the town’s hygiene. Ibrahim Mumin, an elder from Surai Stage, praised the effort and described it as a significant demonstration of unity. Mumin urged private clinics and hotels in Wajir to adopt better waste disposal methods.

Abdifatah Yussuf, a youth from Bulla Ali Maow, expressed his excitement about taking part in the cleanup with fellow young volunteers. He stated that the initiative will greatly contribute to the cleanliness of Wajir municipality and requested the municipality office to establish a regular clean-up schedule to boost community participation.
