Masalani: A biting water crisis has continued to affect Masalani town, in Ijara, Garissa County, with allegations flying that water browser operators and Masalani water supply officials are involved in the artificial water shortage.
According to Kenya News Agency, a spot check revealed that water distribution is laced with biasness, with some connections for no reason left dry while others have running water. Allegations abound that charges leveled on consumers are done in a haphazard manner, and in other instances there is overcharging, leaving underprivileged families unable to foot the bills.
Water bowsers are charging Sh3000 for water delivery whose safety is questionable, with the situation triggering suspected high waterborne infections from water drawn from the Tana River. Local elders have appealed to the government to intervene in the situation to avert further suffering of the local residents.
