Post: West Pokot Receives Sh36 Million Medical Supplies to Boost Health Services

West pokot: West Pokot Governor Simon Kachapin has received medical supplies worth Sh36 million from the Kenya Medical Supplies Authority (KEMSA) to support 162 health facilities across the county as the new financial year begins. The facilities include Kapenguria County Referral Hospital and the Sub-County hospitals in Kacheliba, Sigor, and Chepareria in the broader effort to ensure that every resident, regardless of their location, can access timely and reliable healthcare.

According to Kenya News Agency, the Governor spoke during the handing over of a consignment of drugs at Kapenguria County Referral Hospital (KCRH). The supplies received were for the fourth quarter medical supplies and aim to bolster healthcare across the county. Governor Kachapin emphasized professionalism, transparency, and accountability in managing the medical drugs supplied to uphold public trust.

He announced that over 240 medical personnel will join the county's health workforce next week to address staffing challenges. The next critical phase is enhancing the capacity of the human resource unit and improving service delivery in both new and established facilities. The Governor also highlighted ongoing projects, including the construction of a radiology unit and plans to upgrade security around the hospital with better lighting infrastructure.

Reflecting on the progress since devolution, he noted the establishment of emergency units, an ICU, and the recruitment and training of specialists as key achievements. Kachapin assured residents of his commitment to fulfilling promises during the remaining two years in office, emphasizing collaboration and sustainable growth in healthcare.

He noted that over 30% of the county's budget is allocated to the health department, and the initiative marks a significant step towards strengthening West Pokot's healthcare system and prioritizing residents' well-being.
