Nairobi: Kenyan content creators are poised to benefit from an innovative digital platform, Zaumu, touted as Africa's first digital creator-focused marketplace. Unveiled recently, the platform seeks to connect influencers and digital content creators directly with brands, enabling seamless access to job opportunities and project collaborations. Zaumu is designed as an end-to-end influencer campaign management solution that empowers creators to source and execute projects while also measuring campaign performance.
According to Kenya News Agency, speaking during the launch, Zaumu Co-Founder Cedric Nzomo noted that despite brands increasingly allocating more resources to digital marketing, an estimated 90 per cent of digital projects targeting influencers never materialize. 'Brands subject influencer campaigns to lengthy internal processes. Although they recognize the value of digital marketing, many hesitate to commit due to a lack of transparency and inadequate measurement tools,' said Nzomo.
Recent data from Statista places Kenya's influencer marketing spend at USD 2.5 million in 2024, against a projected potential of USD 25 million. The stark contrast is attributed to several systemic challenges including misalignment between brand expectations and creator capabilities.
Nzomo further explained that current industry practices rely heavily on third-party referrals and trending topics, which often lead to mismatched partnerships. 'Creators frequently face delayed payments, low earnings, and exploitation. At the same time, brands struggle to find talent that aligns with their vision and values,' he added.
Zaumu, he said, seeks to streamline these interactions through a transparent, AI-powered digital marketplace focused on Africa's evolving digital economy. 'Our goal is to bridge the trust gap and build a sustainable, mutually beneficial ecosystem for both creators and brands,' he stressed. The launch marks a significant step forward in transforming how digital marketing is approached on the continent.
