Post: 13-Year-Old Arraigned in Court for Manslaughter in Baringo

Kabarnet: A boy, aged 13, has been arraigned at a Kabarnet court to face a charge of allegedly killing a 68-year-old man in Marigat Sub County, Baringo County. The accused appeared before Senior Principal Magistrate Purity Koskey and was charged with manslaughter contrary to section 202 as read with section 205 of the penal code.

According to Kenya News Agency, the charge sheet stated that on January 13, 2025, at around 4am in Salabani village, Marigat Sub County, Baringo County, the boy unlawfully killed Richard Kuterer, aged 68 years. The teenager pleaded not guilty to the accusations when he was presented to court to answer the charges. "I did not commit the offence," said the boy.

The prosecution counsel, Collins Ogutu, requested the court for a diversion considering the age of the suspect. Ogutu also prayed for reasonable bond terms so that the suspect could go back to school. The magistrate, in her ruling, ordered that the suspect may be released on a bond of Sh50,000 with a surety of a similar amount.

Koskey noted that in the event where the bond is not raised, the suspect will be held at Eldoret Children Remand Home. She directed the case to be mentioned on February 12, when it will consider if it can be adjudicated at home.
