Post: Projects in Kuria to be Completed, Says Water Official

Kuria: Lake Victoria South Water Works Development Agency official, Paul Agwanda, has announced that six water projects in the Kuria region are set to be completed, aiming to enhance the community's living standards. Agwanda made this declaration during a public participation event at the Gokeharaka water project located at Mahuntutu Dam in Kuria West Sub County, emphasizing that some projects have already been initiated and are awaiting funding allocations.

According to Kenya News Agency, the Gokeharaka water project will focus on purifying water from Mahuntutu Dam to ensure it is safe for consumption. This will involve constructing water tanks and extending water pipes to deliver water to homes and various institutions. Upon completion, the project is expected to serve at least 10,000 residents of Gokeharaka and its surrounding areas.

The Lake Victoria South Water Works Development Agency is currently providing services in the counties of Migori, Homabay, Kisumu, Nyamira, Kisii, Kericho, and Bomet. Kuria West Deputy County Commissioner Andrew Mwiti expressed that the project will significantly improve the living standards in Kuria by providing clean water and facilitating irrigation projects. He highlighted that, besides the Gokeharaka water project, which will benefit 10,000 people, the initiative will also create employment opportunities and lead to the establishment of water kiosks.

Kemunda Chacha, a resident of the Gokeharaka ward, praised the public involvement in the water project, noting that meaningful community projects can only be achieved through public engagement. Chacha stated that the community has fully embraced the Gokeharaka water project due to the substantial benefits it promises upon completion.
