Post: 36 Ambulances Mobilised for Emergency Coverage During Odinga’s Reception

Nairobi: The Principal Secretary for Medical Services, Dr. Ouma Oluga, has announced the mobilisation of thirty-six ambulances to provide emergency medical coverage during the reception of the body of the late former Prime Minister Raila Amolo Odinga at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) on October 16, 2025. Dr. Oluga emphasized the readiness of each ambulance, which is equipped with Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Life Support (ALS) facilities and staffed with a paramedic, nurse, and driver to ensure effective emergency response and safe patient evacuation if necessary.

According to Kenya News Agency, Dr. Oluga stated that the deployment includes 20 ambulances from the Kenya Red Cross, four from St John Ambulance, three from the Nairobi Disaster Service, eight from the Nairobi Emergency Services, and one from the Kenyatta National Hospital. Additionally, a Port Health ambulance will be on standby at JKIA to provide supplementary medical support and coordinate with other responding teams.

Dr. Oluga mentioned that mobilization efforts are also ongoing to ensure comprehensive emergency medical coverage in Kisumu and Siaya Counties as national arrangements are being finalized. Earlier, he had issued a condolence message from the State Department for Medical Services, acknowledging the nation's mourning of Odinga's passing, whom he described as a revered statesman and defender of democracy and social justice.

Dr. Oluga expressed, "Kenya has lost a true patriot whose vision and integrity will continue to guide future generations. His legacy of resilience and courage will live on in the hearts of all who believe in a united, progressive, and peaceful Kenya."
