Koulse: The Association of Women, Education, Health and Development (AFESD) has launched a digital campaign aimed at combating malaria, during a workshop that witnessed participation from various social actors, including journalists, jokers, and opinion leaders from the Kaya health area. The initiative seeks to engage the public actively in the fight against malaria.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the workshop participants expressed their dedication to eradicating malaria by signing a board, symbolizing solidarity with AFESD and a collective commitment to halt the disease. Dr. Lamine Ouedraogo, Chief Medical Officer of the Kaya Health District, highlighted that malaria remains the leading cause of consultations and hospitalizations despite governmental and stakeholder efforts. In the first half of 2025 alone, the district recorded 43,592 malaria cases, with 2,346 being severe. Dr. Ouedraogo welcomed the AFESD initiative as a reinforcement to the current control measures.
The Tigre Naaba of Kaya, representing customary authorities, called on participants to be actively involved in the campaign, emphasizing the importance of this effort for the well-being of women and children. AFESD President Saibata Sawadogo stated that the campaign aims to significantly reduce the malaria mortality rate among women and children. She urged the media and jokers to help disseminate awareness messages broadly through various communication channels to maximize the campaign's reach.
This digital campaign is part of the "Contribution to the Reduction of Maternal and Child Mortality Due to Malaria" project, which aims to engage women and girls in health decision-making processes. The project also focuses on enhancing awareness efforts across the region to combat malaria effectively.
