Post: Burkina-Russia Cooperation: Establishment of a Business Council and Creation of an Intergovernmental Commission Announced

Ouagadougou: A Russian delegation led by Energy Minister Sergei Tsivilev held a working session with members of the Burkinabe government on Wednesday. The meeting focused on reviewing the various areas of bilateral cooperation.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the Minister of Energy, Mines and Quarries, Yacouba Zabr© Gouba, and his counterpart from the Russian Federation, Sergei Tsivilev, signed a memorandum. This act is the culmination of a one-on-one meeting between the Russian and Burkinabe delegations, having worked on several areas of bilateral cooperation.

These discussions revealed the desire to establish a Business Council in the areas of trade and economy, on the guidance of the President of Faso, Head of State, Captain Ibrahim Traor©. A Russian delegation of more than 70 members arrived on Tuesday night.

The creation of an intergovernmental commission was also discussed, as well as the opening of an air flow to establish a direct line between Burkina Faso and the Russian Federation. "We were able to reach an agreement for the development of energy infrastructure, and we initialed an agreement with a Russian company. Before developing the nuclear power plant, thermal power plants will be set up in Burkina Faso to improve the energy supply," said Yacouba Zabr© Gouba.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Karamoko Jean-Marie Traor©, the Minister of Economy, Dr. Aboubacar Nacanabo, the Minister of Higher Education, Pr. Adjima Thiombiano, as well as the Minister of Territorial Administration, also took part in this round table. Russian Energy Minister Sergei Tsivilev, for his part, reassured the Burkinabe side.

"Relations between our two countries are based on the principles of justice, equality and mutual trust," said Sergei Tsivilev. He recommended the establishment of action plans to consolidate partnership ties between the two states.
