Post: Church-Led Programme Transforms Communities

Nyahururu: A church-led programme dubbed Church Community Mobilization Process (CCMP) is embracing a holistic approach in addressing the spiritual, social, economic, and physical needs of the local communities. While speaking on Sunday at ACK Christ the King Cathedral in Nyahururu during CCMP Day, Provost Rev John Ngenye, who coordinates the CCMP programme, said the programme focuses on improving the living standards of the local community through utilising locally available resources within the communities to fight poverty, uplift livelihoods, and improve their overall wellbeing.

According to Kenya News Agency, Rev Ngenye explained that the church targets the local community to have the right knowledge in their mind, to have Christ in their hearts, to have food on the table, money in their pockets, as well as having good relationships with God, neighbors, environment, and among themselves. The provost urged the members to turn their backyards and their compounds into places of provision by planting vegetables, as well as rearing chicken which would in the long run improve their diets as well as put money into their pocket through sale of the surplus.

James Mwangi, a beneficiary of the programme and also a CCMP committee member, said through proper utilization of backyards for kitchen gardening and poultry and small-scale livestock farming, one can save a lot of money that goes to daily running of homes. Mwangi noted that by utilising backyards, individuals can raise chicken, rear goats, or plant vegetables, thereby enriching diets and generating income through selling the surplus.

The CCMP Kenya Chapter brings together a partnership of churches which include The Anglican Church of Kenya (ACK), The Africa Brotherhood Church (ABC), The Africa Christian Churches and Schools (ACCandS), The Africa Inland Church (AIC), The Friends Church, The Pentecostal Evangelical Fellowship of Africa (PEFA), and The Redeemed Gospel Church.
