Post: Governor Ntutu Commissions Critical Water Infrastructure

Narok: In a major boost to water access in Narok County, Governor Patrick Keturet Ole Ntutu has officially commissioned newly installed pumping sets and a protective flood control wall at the Narok Town Water Intake Facility. The new infrastructure is expected to significantly enhance water supply for more than 140,000 residents in Narok Town and surrounding areas.

According to Kenya News Agency, the infrastructure was achieved through a partnership between the County Government of Narok and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), with implementation by Narok Water and Sewerage Services Company (NARWASSCO). 'This vital infrastructure represents a significant milestone in our ongoing efforts to ensure a sustainable and reliable water supply,' Governor Ntutu said during the commissioning ceremony.

The County government invested Sh12 million in the procurement and installation of two submersible and two turbine pumps. The protective flood control wall, aimed at safeguarding the facility from seasonal flooding, was constructed in collaboration with JICA at a cost of KES 30 million.

This achievement is particularly significant for the people of Narok, a semi-arid county that frequently grapples with severe water shortages, especially during the dry season. Residents have long faced challenges accessing sufficient water for both domestic use and livestock, a lifeline in the predominantly pastoralist region.

'The installation of this new equipment and the flood control measures is a game-changer for our community. It means more reliable access to clean water, even during the most challenging times of the year,' noted a local resident.

Governor Ntutu reaffirmed his administration's commitment to improving essential services and thanked development partners for their support in addressing water scarcity across the region. The newly upgraded facility is now expected to operate more efficiently, reducing service disruptions and strengthening water resilience for both current and future generations.
