Post: Contractors Urged to Expedite Construction of Economic Stimulus Projects in Kericho

Kericho: Contractors involved in the construction of Economic Stimulus Projects (ESP) in Kericho County have been urged to accelerate their efforts to meet the deadlines for these significant initiatives. These projects include markets, affordable housing projects, and other essential infrastructure within the county.

According to Kenya News Agency, the call to action was made during the National Government Development County Implementation Coordination and Management Committee Meeting (NGD-CICMC). Deputy County Commissioner (DCC) Anthony Kirui, representing County Commissioner Gilbert Kitiyo, emphasized the importance of adhering to the contractual obligations to ensure timely delivery of the projects. This, he noted, would allow residents to access services and reap the benefits of the developments.

Kirui also encouraged heads of departments to collaborate effectively in implementing government projects and delivering services to the public. Housing Officer Annabel Mwangi Wangare provided updates on the construction progress of several markets. She reported that the Chesinende, Sosiot, and Kapkatet markets were at 23%, 35%, and 63% completion, respectively, while construction of the Lelu market in Fortenan, Kipkelion West, had yet to commence.

Wangare attributed the slow progress to inadequate mobilization of materials and a lack of skilled labor. She stressed the need for a meeting with contractors to address the issues hindering the construction timeline. Additionally, the Director of Delivery Unit, Martin Rotich, joined Kirui in urging for this meeting to resolve the bottlenecks.

In related developments, County Director of Education Julius Ngoneshi reported ongoing construction of 300 new classrooms for junior secondary schools in the county, highlighting the diverse infrastructural advancements taking place.
