Lodwar: The County Government has initiated dialogue with the Kenya Oil and Gas Working Group (KOGWG) representatives as part of a broader effort to enhance community engagement and streamline land registration processes linked to oil and gas exploration activities. The meeting, held in Lodwar, focused on the critical need to involve the local communities in decisions related to land ownership and access, especially in areas earmarked for oil and gas development. Officials noted that land registration should be resolved amicably to ensure that resource extraction benefits local residents and minimizes conflict.
According to Kenya News Agency, County Chief Officer for Mining, Energy, and Petroleum Triza Amoni highlighted the county's commitment to building trust through transparency and sustained dialogue. Amoni emphasized their commitment to supporting artisanal miners and fostering responsible practices in the extractive sector. She noted the significant contribution of these miners to the global economy and the county government's aim to work closely with them to formalize operations and offer necessary support services.
Amoni also mentioned that the county is exploring partnerships aimed at capacity building for small-scale miners and creating frameworks for equitable resource sharing. KOGWG Coordinator Muturi wa Kamau highlighted the group's role in strengthening governance structures in the oil and gas industry. Kamau noted that improving the land registration system was central to the group's mandate, as it enhances transparency, public participation, and accountability in the sector.
Kamau further stressed that the active involvement of communities and local leadership is key to unlocking the full potential of oil and gas resources. He emphasized the importance of ensuring that policies and systems reflect the needs of those most directly affected.
