‘Decision of Tunisia’s new territorial division into five districts could only serve the country’ (Selmi)

Deputy Secretary General of the Tunisian General Labor Union (UGTT) Slaheddine Selmi said that the decision of a new territorial division of Tunisia into five districts could only but serve the country through an open dialogue between all political components and civil society. Presiding, Thursday, the meeting of the executive offices of the sections of the public sector federations held at the headquarters of the regional labor union in Sfax, he told the media in statement that the presidential on Tunisia's the territorial division into five districts, as part of the preparations for the elections of local councils, which will be organized on December 24, can only serve the country through an open dialogue between all political components and the civil society. Selmi underlined that the absence of dialogue and communication between the executive power and the trade union organisation "serves neither the trade union center nor the country", calling on the executive power to review its policy on social dialogue and launch a serious and responsible dialogue between all parties given that the UGTT is the first union force in Tunisia having contributed to the building of the modern State after the independence and up to the present day. The meeting of the executive offices of the sections of the public sector federations was devoted to the study of the union, political and social situation of the regional labor union in Sfax and within the UGTT in general, to sectoral demands as well as agreements and minutes which have not been implemented.
