The Agricultural Investment Promotion Agency (APIA) in Gabès approved 231 projects from early January to October 2023, with funds amounting to 22 million dinars. Agricultural investments, whose financing does not exceed 1 million dinars, recorded an increase of 31% compared to the same period of last year, while the number of projects increased by 28% from 165 to 231 projects. However, agricultural investments in the region are still facing challenges, including banks’ low contribution to funding this sector and the volume of loans granted to approved projects (300,000 dinars during this year). The situation is also marked by a lack of funds necessary for the disbursement of authorized subsidies to investors, the high cost of carrying out agricultural projects and their incompatibility with the standards adopted for the processing of project files.
