Post: Government on Track in Delivery of Programs, Says Owalo

Asembo: The government is on track in its efforts to deliver projects and programs to the citizens, deputy chief of staff in charge of performance management, Eliud Owalo, has said.

According to Kenya News Agency, a recent mid-term review undertaken to determine the implementation status of the development programs by the Kenya Kwanza government revealed that several milestones have been achieved. Owalo was speaking in Asembo, Rarieda Sub County, Siaya, after attending the burial of the late Willis Arika.

"Based on the past performance, we have also prioritized what needed to be done over the next two years, with a view to fully implementing the Kenya Kwanza plan, which was the basis of our campaigns and now forms the overall policy agenda of the government," he said.

In Nyanza and the entire lake region, Owalo said the government was committed to the revival of several sectors of the economy now that there is what he termed an enabling environment. Among the sectors that he said will be revived are the sugar and cotton sectors, adding that the government was committed to the revitalization of the struggling sugar factories.

"The government already has a proper program of revitalizing the sugar mills by way of leasing to the private sector," said the former Cabinet Secretary for Information, Communications and the Digital Economy.

Owalo further stated that the government will put up the Lave Victoria ring road that starts in Busia to the border with Tanzania. "We are determined that this road will see light under the current administration," said Owalo, adding that already, the road has been redesigned, with fundamental components already in place. He said that the road will open up the Lake region for commerce, entrepreneurship, and trade.

On the performance of state agencies, the deputy chief of staff said the government was keen on re-engineering the agencies through the change of the wrong culture that has bedevilled state corporations over the years. "Performance of most parastatals has been wanting because of the wrong culture," he said, adding, "We are trying to inculcate private sector culture in the public sector."
