Post: High School Students in Ziro Pledge to Uphold Order and Discipline

Ouagadougou: As part of the second fortnight of the Patriotic Commitment and Civic Participation Days, students from the provincial high school, the municipal high school of Sapouy, and the departmental high school of Bougnounou benefited, on October 6 and 7, 2025, from a public conference on the theme 'For order and discipline, I commit myself', led by the Regional Director of Human Rights, Promotion of Citizenship and Peace of the Center-West, Leon Yaknaba. This participatory meeting allowed students to reflect on their role in building a disciplined and civic society.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the Secretary General of Ziro Province, Adams Davou, opened the conference by representing the High Commissioner and emphasizing the importance of the theme. He stated that a society without order and discipline cannot progress and urged the youth to prepare for their future roles in Burkina Faso. Davou stressed that knowledge must be complemented by discipline to effectively build the nation.

Regional Director Leon Yaknaba, during his presentation, explained several key concepts including order, discipline, civic-mindedness, citizen participation, and patriotism. He highlighted the differences between traditional values and modern-day expectations, noting the need to restore past values to foster a society rooted in peace and cohesion. Yaknaba engaged students through a participatory approach, encouraging them to reflect on their conduct and illustrating his points with real-life examples from the school environment.

Provincial Director of Secondary Education, Vocational and Technical Training of Ziro, Dramane Ilboudo, commended the quality of the communication. He emphasized that understanding order and discipline as foundational to academic success will positively impact society. Ilboudo also recognized the open discussions between students and supervisors, which addressed concerns like the upkeep of the botanical garden and the condition of school facilities, and noted immediate solutions were implemented with student involvement.

The conference ended with students making a solemn commitment to exhibit good behavior, adhere to school rules, and promote civic duty and patriotism. Another session on the same theme is scheduled for October 10, 2025, at the departmental high school of Sapouy.
