John Osogo And Chakol Retain Busia County Schools’ Soccer Titles

John Osogo Secondary School has been crowned the Busia County Soccer champions for the second consecutive year.

This comes after they edged out their rival Mabunge Rc from Nambale Sub County on 4-3 through a penalty shoot-out after a barren draw at St. Mathias Secondary school in Busia on Saturday.

Speaking after the win, the team’s captain Asman Yesir attributed their win to their hard work and mentality.

‘The game was hard, we have really worked hard and our mentality was to make another history,’ he said.

The team’s coach Kennedy Wabwire said the boys’ proper preparation was the key to their win promising other schools a stiff competition.

‘This year we started our preparation earlier and that helped us. We have been at regionals and this time we are well prepared to compete. We must play at the National Finals,’ he said.

St Joseph Chakol Girls retained their soccer title after defeating Kingandole Girls by 1-0, a goal scored by Captain Sharon Odima through a spot kick.

The captain said ‘the discipl
ine and confidence from the girls has said it; we have trained well enough and this time we are heading to the National finals’.

The team’s coach Antony Wekesa asked the sponsors to help the girls as they were the source of Chakol Queens.

Wekesa said his team lacked sponsorship and it was the source of Chakol Queens who would be playing in the National Super League next season. ‘I want these girls to be helped and be part of the team they built,’ he said.

The School Principal David Mase said they were prepared and were aiming at reaching the East Africa Games.

‘We are going to strengthen our team in a few positions and this time round, East African Finals here we come,’ he said.

Both Chakol and Kingandole qualified for Regional finals.

In basketball 3 by 3 champions were Nangina Girls and Sigalame High School in girls’ and boys’ category respectively. Bumala A.C Girls were crowned the champion in Netball and together with Odiado Secondary School will be representing the County at regional games.
