Post: Kakamega County signs MOU with partners on waste management

The Kakamega County government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding(MOU) with Practical Action and Regen Organics on collection and management of waste.Regen organics, an agricultural engineering group, is establishing an organic fertiliser plant at Matawa in Mumias West that is expected to convert waste into organic fertiliser.The two partners are also expected to establish Material Recovery centres across the county that will process waste that is generated in Kakamega.Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa said the MOU embodies the shared commitments on issues of sustainable waste management.He noted that the partners will utilize cutting edge technologies and innovation to recycle waste.'I wish to reaffirm my government's support to the partnership with Regen Organics and Practical Action. These two organizations will work with Kakamega County Investment Development Agency(KCIDA), to create and design material recovery facilities that will attract investment in the recycling of glass, plastics, e-waste and inorganic waste,' he added.Source: Kenya News Agency
