Post: Mara Sugar FC Advance to Mozzart Cup Quarterfinals after 2-0 Victory over Compel FC

Kisumu: Mara Sugar FC, also known as the Sugar Millers, have advanced to the quarterfinals of the Mozzart Bet Cup after a commanding 2-0 win over FKF Division One side Compel FC in a rescheduled Round of 16 encounter played at the Moi Stadium in Kisumu County.

According to Kenya News Agency, the match was initially postponed due to an appeal filed by AFC Leopards contesting Mara's qualification in the previous knockout round. The appeal was dismissed by the Football Kenya Federation, allowing the match to proceed. Mara Sugar FC capitalized on the opportunity, delivering a dominant performance to secure their place in the last eight.

The victory serves as a morale booster for the Sugar Millers, who are also striving to retain their FKF Premier League status. Defender Lameck Omondi, who joined the club in the mid-season transfer window from National Super League side Darajani Gogo, expressed confidence in the team's potential to make a significant impact in the tournament. Omondi emphasized the team's dual focus on retaining their league status and pushing forward in the Mozzart Bet Cup.

Omondi has become an integral part of the team's defensive lineup since joining, overcoming initial challenges to solidify his role in Mara's backline. His contributions were vital in maintaining a clean sheet against Compel FC.

With the quarterfinals approaching, Mara Sugar FC aims to sustain their momentum and continue their progress in the Mozzart Bet Cup. The team has captured the attention of fans and stakeholders, who are hopeful for a successful end to a challenging yet promising season.

Mara Sugar FC was founded in 2012 by employees of Transmara Sugar Company in Enoosaen, Narok County. The club was established as an initiative for employees to engage in football after work hours. Over the years, the team has evolved into a competitive presence in Kenyan football.
